Precisely those same drafts and sunny days withouth humidity are the best conditions for the regatta’s competitors who enjoyed the hospitality and tasting the variety of brands and flavors of BACARDI RUM.

As the everyday awards for the first 3 ranked teams and the honors dinner at the end of all diferent competitions. In the VILLA BACARDI, was prepared for all fans and competitors to share: music, art food and games.

The COPA BACARDI was celebrating the 86th Anniversary and 51 consecutive years of competition in many categories of Sport Sailboats in the BACARDI MIAMI SAILING WEEK has been established in BISCAYNE BAY by COCONUT GROVE entry as  the official track event.

A tight competition

An event that has remained the same, in memory of TITO BACARDI, pioneer of the BACARDI CUP tournament where the select community of participants in racing sailboats find various ways to honor sportmanship and cheerful TITO, along with his family, the BACARDI FAMILY.

In addition to the race, in the VILLA BACARDI, it was an ART exhibition a photo display about the history of the COPA AMERICA, an oustanding work of photographers CORY SILKEN, RHODE ISLAND resident who had on display a large collection in the North Hall of the CONVENTION  CENTER of COCONUT GROVE.

The exhibition was open to all followers of this great event. The CORAL REEF YACHT CLUB in collaboration. BISCAYNE BAY YACHT and CLUB SAILING CENTER U.S. and SHAKE -A-LEG MIAMI have supported this organic and totally family oriented sport.

The races were held in three separate groups about two miles out to sea, off BISCAYNE BAY, the class START 86º continuous in association with BACARDI, a tradition that began in CUBA and then in MIAMI, since 1962, it’s marks the 50th Anniversary and celebrate including more categories to the race, offering more emotions in the tournament, competing in classes: VIPER 640, MELGES 20, MELGES 24 y J/80, and incorporating a new category this year J/70′s in its first race in SOUTH FLORIDA.

Thus ended the sailboats competitions in the BACARDI MIAMI SAILING WEEK (BMSW) presented by EFG Bank, whit a tight competition between the top contenders in each class, and through the unexpected victory in the STAR CATEGROY 86º race, BACARDI CUP for the team MARK MENDELBLATT from ST. PETERSBURG FL. BRIAN FAITH from MIAMI FL.

Unpredicted outcome since MENDELBLATT and FAITH, began the series with low score and almost get desqualified but they regained the lead on the one before the last day to remain in second place in the positions to climb the first at the last race, becoming winners. -”We did not have a balanced performance,but we managed to turn the tide and grave a complete turnaround”- Said MENDELBLATT

Who already won the BACARDI CUP in 2005. -”It was a disappointing start and it was my fault for not having  a good first race. After that I was very aware about our score and we put all our effort winning the last two races, it was not an easy road win the CUP, which means a lot for me. Is very important to win any race but winning the race star is not easy at all and is a great honor”- Colcludes.

Now MARK MENDELBLATT and FAITH BRIAN, have their names on the TITO BACARDI’s trophy.
 What began in 1927 as an event for three days, with less than 10 ships, now attracts over 200 athletes each year from about 23 countries and international media attention.The BACARDI Cup is the only Cuban sports event that has survived in the United States, including: schools of sharks, broken masts, surrounded by art, parties, games, food and completely sponsored by Bacardi USA, Inc.

30 eran los nombres de grandes celebridades que figuraban en el facebook de la prensa sin embargo, la alfombra roja estaba que ardía cuando los mejores jugadores de toda clase de deportes, aparecieron con sus esposas y junto con actores de Hollywood, formaron parte de  un desfile de generosos corazones.

Courtesyby NASA) During the exploration of the universe, NASA scientists have the need to develop new materials and products that enable electronic equipment and humans in space to address environmental challenges and survive in conditions where life as we know it is impossible to reproduce.

Meanwhile, those same inventions are paraphernalia that apply in our day to day, in this case these are the implements of security we enjoyed thanks by teams of scientists from NASA. One of the most dangerous risks in the heroic work of the fire departments face is the lack of oxygen and the strong possibility of asphyxiation once they rescue lives.

From the Space to the earth

When NASA created a breathing system was precisely because it may be dangerous the work of firefighters in the list of occupational hazards but undoubtedly the highest risk has to be astronauts who have to perform mechanical functions in the space where the oxygen is not present and therefore it is impossible to survive without the invisible but precious and precious element.

Another useful tool for rescuers work is the INVISIBLE FLAME IMAGING a handheld camera to detect invisible hydrogen flames and alcohol, this device was developed at STENNIS SPACE CENTER during rocket testing program, with liquid hydrogen. And now, firefighters can use the INVISIBLE FLAME IMAGING in the process of intervention to find invisible flame within a fire and to avoid the most dangerous places in the process of rescue lives.

Continuing with contributions from NASA about fire safety, are the FIRE ATTIRE. Firemen’s uniforms, they wear inside the station are made of cotton, usually cotton twill pants and cotton shirts because when they go to mitigate the fire, they can placed the outer uniform on top of the cotton clothing that will not melt in
the skin like other fabrics.

The outer uniforms are known as “Bunker gear” and “Turnout gear” they differ, depending on context. The “Bunker” is used in cases without fire rescue, putting pants, boots and jacket, and in the case of fire use the “Turnout “which is the complete combination of all elements. The protective clothing for firefighters is configured from a material known as the “PBI Gold” a fabric which is a special textile product called “Polybenzimidazole” woven into the fabric with Kevlar.

PBI fabric is unique because it is completely fireproof impossible to burn or melt, even if you pour petrol on it and set fire. This
outfit anti-fire is lightweight, with heat-resistant features.

These extraordinary materials were originally developed for space suits for astronauts in the NASA space program “Apollo” those suits has been evolved in each one of the missions to protect astronauts from solar radiation during their trips to the moon. SAFETY COATING, is a flame resistant enamel coating on oxygen tanks.

Also known as the Scott Air-Pak, the firefighters loaded oxygen tanks are used during rescue missions and vary in size and capacity from 10-14 lbs those with 30 minutes of air are made of carbon fiber. The 60 minutes of air can weigh up to 17 pounds and from that capacity tanks aremade of aluminum and the largest reaches 22 lbs, all are protected with the same SAFETY COATING enamel fireproof covering NASA’s spacecraft.

The SAFETYCOATING enamel ANTIINFLAMABE is apply in all oxygen tanks and in the hulls of  ships as a coating against fire to prevent the spread of the flames, The same material has been applied as a tape to wrap and insulate fuel lines from fire. Another outstanding product and results of investigations of NASA scientists is the PROTECTIVE JACKETING-INSULATION, a composite structure to inhibit corrosion of the pipelines in the oxygen tanks of Fight fires, this PROTECTIVE JACKETING-INSULATION is the same ceramic cloth, used on the tiles that make up the space shuttle’s outer skin in all space-vehicles used during the NASA space shuttle program, protects offshore oil platforms from fires that can cause the platforms to buckle.

The protective jacketing- insulation system can withstand temperatures of 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit, shielding and allowing Firefighters to have reliable life support during dangerous and heated rescues.
