(Photos by Buzz Report, Internet & Kris Mincev) In 1948 when Candid Camera brought entertainment with authentic reactions in fake situations, the concept of “Reality TV” began, but few imagined the economic benefits that this new style of TV could produce. At this time, the “Reality Shows” have been replacing soap operas, dramas, and some of them have changed the old dynamic of competitions.
They were intended to solve real problems using people with housing difficulties or weight issues, with the inention of solving a national crisis in the country and displayig that aything is possible. In this trend of “reality” gender, it was created a wide range of programming; formats to survive in a competition like “Survivor” or extreme surveillance and voyeurism-focused such as: “Big Brother” and strict “Casting-Call” style tha have impacted the world with franchises like: “American Idol” dominating in all languages. The latest estimate published by this model reported a profit of $6.4 billion for the re-creator of the concept.
Another factor of the fictional “Reality”, is the surreal environment and impossible situations that rarely fit real scenarios such as the formulas of
“The Apprentice” or “The Bachelor”. Productions that have achieved high ratings on broadcast TV even though it never comes to a good end.
In just a couple of years, the productions of the concept “Reallity” have transformed the business into a lucrative reality TV, so remarkable
in dramatizing the everyday life as how to attract new viewers.
In the process of exploration and selection of participants, 75% are usually actors or actresses whom couldn’t make it to the big leagues, so they can be passed as ordinary citizens, when they are actually semi-professional actors who have an idea of how wok it out on camera and control certain reactions or dramatize situations.
The so called “Reality SHows” are specific forms of “story editors television” or “segment producers” with the interpretattion of facts and manipulated sequences, requiring a certain level of participants to reach and create an impression translated with methods of directing, editings, post-production and other techniques like Real TV.
Even though the success of this format is wide spread, the dark side is revealed when in the process of presenting the so-called “First World Problems” that are used in the design of this business, the creators of this formula did not consider that some partakers cannot understand the fictional situations that have been modified to magnify the show.
When facing difficult situations in serious and realistic topics such as: excess of publicity alike “celebrity”, which in principle can be flattering from all the media attention.
All these people with no acting training can hardly separate the real from fiction when their lives are facing facts such as infidelity, broken relationships, divorce, bankruptcy, foreclosure, family disputes, alcoholism, evictions, dreadful paternity, terrible parenting, abusive behavior, gossip, intimidation, court fights, fraud, imprisonment and the unimaginable suicide as a result of such pressure.
In the same context is valid to leave out rude newbies, MTV or other television networks that glamourize and contribute little or nothing to their followers, a generation as self-destructive feeding series like: Following … (Keeping Up with…) “families” or “groups of unbearable teenagers “exhibit only ridiculous and greedy tendencies to justify a luxurious lifestyle without culture or totally devalued education, that educated children of REAL tycoons won’t show.
The phenomenon of “Reality TV” marks a new era of home entertainment. Channels like “Bravo” are supported100% with this kind of programming in a variety of subjects, making this network as the platform for all who associates with the series broadcast themselves in TV.
The incentive for participants with more authentic reactions, have a real opportunity to enter to the REAL media industry as has happened with the ladies of the distorted original ABC Family
“Desperate Housewives”, a sitcom that successfully presented stereotypes of married women in suburban neighborhoods, between the drama promote values of loyalty and solidarity among neighbors and friends over all and at the end to create unity and respect of that diversity.
By contrast, in “The Real Housewives of …” (franchise) seems that the more obnoxious the behavior of the participants, they gain more popularity, and the more ridiculous, nasty, abusive, and insulting behavior of the cast, the higher are the ratings. If something can be rescued is the fact that two of the participants who have shown more common sense in business, earned the loyalty of smart followers, and received their spinoff, such as: Bethenny Frankel who was chosen to be the character of “Bethenny Ever After” from “The Real Housewives of New York City”, climbing to achieve her own talk show. Frankel has to be remember that during the first stage of the series was homeless, with no family, and was subject to all kinds of abuse and ridicule by the other members of the cast. Today Bethenny has become TOP celebrity product of the concept of “Reality Tv” with the highest Financial benefit, raising over $100 million after she sold her line of cocktail “Skinnygirl” to Beam Global.
Nothing can be said of the most independent and intelligent entrepreneur in the world of music; Kandi Burrus, the self-made Grammy’s winner and other awards as a singer and producer. Kandi with their true dedication to her businesses scored another success in the series “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” where using the exposure launches her store line of adult sex products, produces CDs for others and increase her financial value over $ 35 million. That increases daily and will multiply by March as soon as she launches her individual serie “The Kandi Factory”.
Moreover, in this “Reality trend” the restaurant industry benefited when the “Reality TV” incorporated professional chefs that expose the sophistication of culinary art and different traditional dishes around the world.
Overall, the model of “Reality TV” is a concept that is continually gaining more fans, however producers would have to reconsider their formulas and side effects.
After all their pockets are filled with enough money and hopefully their financial ambition doesn’t interfere, and will allow them to have a moment of clarity and dignity to exercise the function of entertaining without degrading or destroying, because the only REAL on this concept of “Reality TV” are the millions in profits that goes to their pockets.
