NASA“Improve life here, to extend life to there, to find life beyond”

NASA images, US President Remarks Space Exploration in the 21st Century

SU-O1./ M.M & NASA pictures – Since the broad community of space exploration stakeholders from government, industry and academia got together on May to discuss the Exploration Systems Mission Directorate’s plans for human and robotic space program for the administration’s fiscal year 2011 budget request for the agency, any specific launch dates and missions are likely to change, to reflect the addition of the Orion Emergency Rescue Vehicle, updated priorities, and new information from NASA’s partners.

Space Shuttle program

NASA, still is the best agency in the world for scientific research on Space, even when media doesn’t use to promote the ongoing activities and great discoveries in everyday task, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration is more active than ever.

Just to mention some of the achievements since the creation NACA (National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics) with Launched on January 31, 1958, Explorer 1, officially Satellite 1958 Alpha, became the U.S.’s first Earth satellite.
On July 29, 1958, President Eisenhower signed the National Aeronautics and Space Act, establishing NASA.

NASA From Rockets to vehicles

The new agency began operations on October 1st, 1958, NASA absorbed the 46-year-old NACA intact; its 8,000 employees and since then NASA has been running 9 mayor mission which include at least 189 Launches with Crew Missions.

On February 1st, 2010, President Barack Obama announced a proposal to cancel the Constellation Program effective with the U.S. 2011 fiscal year budget, but later announced changes to the proposal in a major space policy speech at Kennedy Space Center on April 15, 2010, which includes reviving the Orion capsule for use as a rescue spacecraft at the International Space Station.

NASA builds the International Space Station

Part of the Constellation program involves the development of spacecraft, booster vehicles to replace the Space Shuttle and send astronauts to the Moon and possibly to Mars as well.

NASA has already begun the process of designing two boosters, the Ares I and Ares V.

Ares I would have the sole function of launching mission crews into orbit, while Ares V would be used to launch other hardware for use on missions requiring a heavier lift capacity than the Ares I booster, similar to the Space Shuttle vehicles (+ Columbia, +Challenger, Discovery, Atlantis, and Endeavour) has been doing, in the STS (Space Transportation System) Missions to the International Space Station, since January 5, 1972.

NASA Hubble Telescope

NASA research has been providing invaluable information to understand Earth science focused on better understanding of our planet through the Space. Observing System, advancing heliophysics through the efforts of the Science Mission Directorate’s Heliophysics Research Program, exploring bodies throughout the Solar System with advanced robotic missions such as New Horizons, and researching astrophysics topics, such as the Big Bang, through the Great Observatories and associated programs, is just a few of the great knowledge advances we have access thanks to the great job of NASA.

Great advances on engineering

Also NASA shares data with various national and international organizations like the Greenhouse Gases Observing Satellite.

One of the Vision and Mission Statements of NASA is “Improve life here, to extend life to there, to find life beyond”  that’s why NASA announced the Airborne Science Mission to research areas to be investigated during the next 5 years in  Hurricanes, air quality, and Arctic ecosystems; six NASA centers, 22 educational institutions, nine U.S. or International government agencies and three industrial partners are involved in these missions.

From the space to understand our planet

Another ongoing important work on NASA is the Undersea Exploration Mission, with two astronauts, a veteran undersea engineer and an experienced scientist are getting into the ocean depths of Florida’s East Coast to test exploration concepts and learn more about working in an unforgiving, treacherous environment. The 14th expedition of NASA Extreme Environment Mission Operations, or NEEMO, started on May 2010.
Meanwhile Administrator Charles Bolden and Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke will present an update about the Presidential Task Force on Space Industry Work Force and Economic Development in June 2010.

In great conditions Shuttle Atlantis has been retired

The administration recently launched a $40 million, multi-agency initiative for regional economic growth and to prepare space industry workers for future opportunities. Task force activities will complement local and federal economic and workforce-development efforts.

From small capsules to sophisticated vehicles

Powerful and environmental friendly propulsion engines
